Station and depot VVT, the other works of the

Station and depots 1985-2001 Fire on the 16th December 2001 2002-2003 Rebuild and modifications

New wooden station

During the night of 15th/16th December 2001, the station at St-Sulpice fell victim to flames. Everything was entirely destroyed. The inquiry was able to determine that the fire started in the boiler room ceiling. The cost of the damage has risen to more than hundreds of thousands of francs.

The locomotives and carriages, stationed close by, were untouched by this disaster.

The restaurant, the kitchen, the changing rooms, the office and it's equipment, the toilets, as well as restoration materials and stocks for the sales stand all went up in smoke. The technical archives, which were soon to move to a fire-proof area currently under construction, were also annihilated.

During the last 4 years, the VVT has invested nearly 40,000 Swiss Francs in this building. A gas boiler had been installed and all the doors and windows had been renewed. To improve the welcome to visitors other work had been undertaken.

If anyone possesses plans or copies of steam documents which might interest us, they would be very welcome.

Persons who prefer to help us by donations can make them to CCP 34-166542-4 mentioning "soutien incendie" (fire fund).
